Genetically Engineered Salmon

About GE Salmon

The biotechnology industry says it has genetically engineered a fish that grows at twice the normal rate, so it can get to market sooner and make more money, faster. But this dangerous lab experiment is all hype and full of downsides to consumers, salmon growers and the environment.

If approved, GE salmon would be the first “transgenic” animal allowed into our food supply. It’s also unlikely that it would have to be labeled, so you might not even know you’re eating it.
The FDA doesn’t even do its own testing of genetically engineered animals: it relies on information provided by the company that wants approval. And because GE salmon are being considered as a new animal drug, the process isn’t focused on what happens to people who eat genetically engineered animals. So on top of the health concerns posed by raising salmon in crowded factory fish farms that rely on antibiotics and other chemicals, the FDA could be adding the unknown risks of GE salmon to the mix.

At least 30 House members and 14 senators have written the Obama administration either expressing serious concerns about the manner in which the FDA conducted its review of Aquabounty’s GE salmon, or calling for the outright prohibition of its approval for human consumption. So why isn’t the FDA listening? Learn more.

How to freeze Aloe Vera gel

How to freeze Aloe Vera gel

Aloe Vera is great for cuts and sunburns, even bug bites. It's been called the "First Aid" plant. Aloe vera's soothing gel inside the thick, succulent leaves is an incredible natural skin care product.

The Harvesting Process
When ready to harvest the gel from an aloe leaf, choose an outer leaf that is healthy and grows toward the bottom of the plant. To remove the leaf, cut it at an angle close to the plant's base. Plants that are too immature to harvest will not have leaves growing close to the ground.

Once you cut the leaf from the plant, place it upright in a container in a slightly tilted position. Let the leaf stay in that position for approximately 10 to 12 minutes, allowing the sap to drain from the leaf.

Place the aloe leaf on a flat surface such as a cutting board. Carefully cut off the tip of the leaf and the pointed rough edges on both sides using a very sharp knife. Make certain to cut both sides of the leaf all the way from top to bottom. Separate the front and back of the leaf by slicing it lengthwise from the inside.

Scoop out both the slimy mucilage gel and the clear inner gel which appears more as a solid gel. For most leaves, a spoon works for scooping out the gel. If the leaf is very large, a butter knife may work best. When removing the gel, it is important to press down lightly but firmly, being careful not to remove any remaining sap.

Storing the Aloe Vera Gel
Store the aloe gel in the refrigerator in a plastic container that is safe for food storage or a glass container. The best container choice is a dark green or brown glass jar, which helps to keep out light. Many people add a drop of vitamin E and a small amount of citric acid powder to prevent discoloration and make the aloe vera gel last longer. In place of citric acid powder, simply crush a vitamin C tablet into powder or use a drop of grapefruit seed extract.

Cup of Green Tea Daily Shown to Reduce Risk of this Cancer Type by 24%

Cup of Green Tea Daily Shown to Reduce Risk of this Cancer Type by 24% Natural Society
Is there really anything green tea can’t do? It’s rich in catechins, or healthful flavonoids, and these compounds have truly amazing benefits. From weight loss to brain protection and disease prevention—green tea is truly a healing powerhouse. And the benefits go on—with research connecting the tea to ovarian cancer treatment and prevention.

Multiple studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of green tea in reducing cancer risk. According to one such study, one cup of green tea each day was able to reduce ovarian cancer risk by 24 percent. More than one cup provided even more dramatic results. Two cups per day reduced the risk by 46%, and those women who drank green tea for over 30 years saw the rate of ovarian cancer drop a whopping 75%.

How does it work? At the risk of boring you with unintelligible medical-speak, the components in green tea induce “apoptosis” or cell death. Rather than the cancer cells proliferating (growing in number quickly), they die out.

Green tea components also “downregulate the expression of proteins involved in inflammation, cell signalization, cell motility, and angiogenesis,” according to David Liu, PhD, at FoodConsumer.org. This means, the compounds in green tea regulate cell health in a variety of ways by fighting inflammation (a major contributor to disease in general) and the growth of cancerous cells.

Green tea may stop the growth of cancer cells but it also protects healthy cells, something that can’t be said for traditional cancer treatments. It does this by reducing inflammation and protecting cells from damage by free radicals.

Antibiotics in Meat

Americans are under threat from antibiotic-resistant superbugs, making us vulnerable to common, once treatable infections. A remarkable 80 percent of antibiotics sold in the U.S. are used not by humans, but by the meat and poultry industries so factory farm animals can grow faster and survive crowded and unsanitary conditions.

This is creating superbugs on the farm, and humans are exposed in a number of ways, including when we handle or eat undercooked meat. Our life-saving drugs are becoming less effective when we really need them. Unfortunately, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has refused to take meaningful action to restrict the use of unnecessary antibiotics in livestock production.

We’re calling on Trader Joe’s to only source their meat from animals raised without antibiotics. As one of the most progressive national retailers, Trader Joe’s has already demonstrated care for their customers’ health by saying no to GMOs, artificial colors and trans fats in the products they sell. Trader Joe’s can also be a leader by helping move the livestock industry in the right direction. Read more>>

Farm Use of Antibiotics Defies Scrutiny
The numbers released quietly by the federal government this year were alarming. A ferocious germ resistant to many types of antibiotics had increased tenfold on chicken breasts, the most commonly eaten meat on the nation’s dinner tables.

Eighty percent of the antibiotics sold in the United States goes to chicken, pigs, cows and other animals that people eat, yet producers of meat and poultry are not required to report how they use the drugs — which ones, on what types of animal, and in what quantities. This dearth of information makes it difficult to document the precise relationship between routine antibiotic use in animals and antibiotic-resistant infections in people, scientists say. Remedies for Earaches: Coconut Oil

Click on picture to read more about this remedy!

Warm coconut oil in a saucepan, put a few drops in ear, repeat every 20 minutes or so for an hour, lying on your side so it wouldn't drain out.

We also found that warmth made the ear feel better. I sent him to bed with one of those rice bags that you warm up in the microwave - we put it on his pillow and he slept with his ear on it. (note: don't make it hot - that could cause problems.  I just warmed it for less than a minute to give some slight warmth).

Remember, please check with your doctor if the problems continue or if you have any concerns.  This is just one remedy we use to soothe sore ears and may not help with chronic infections.

I'd love some more suggestions for earaches - with four boys aged 6 and under, I imagine we're not quite done dealing with them yet!!

I'm a firm believer of garlic to help ear infections. Take a whole clove of garlic, peel it, and let it sit out for about an hour. Then, put the whole clove right into the ear canal before bed. Sleep with it in all night long. It is kind of stinky but it really works! If the clove is too big to fit, cut it down to size, but don't put it in so far that you can't get it back out.

Garlic oil in the ear canal is good and not harmful, its anti-bacterial but the catch is it only kills the harmful bacteria and leaves the good bacteria that your bodies need. Yes heat does help it creates a vacume and helps draw out excess fluids and relieve the pressure in the inner ear. try this, heat up a bowl of water with a wash cloth in it in the microwave for 1 to 1 1/2 min. then pour the water and wash cloth in a ziplock bag have your child or whomever lay with the hurt ear on the bag (wrapped in a handtowel of coarse) then once the bag is cooled garlic oil in the ear. repeat as needed. Also quicker fixes with pain relief and bacteria balancing effects Young Livings Melrose around the out side of ear or Young Livings Lavender.
I Choose Young living oils because of the purity and unadulterated oil properties. http://www.youngliving.com/en_US/

FDA increases allowed radiation doses of meats

In the first new rule recently published in the Federal Register, the FDA specifies that "unrefrigerated uncooked meat" can now be irradiated right alongside refrigerated, frozen and cooked meat. And in the second new rule, the FDA increases the amount of ionizing radiation that can be applied to poultry products such as chicken by 50 percent, bumping the dosage up to 4.5 kilograys (kGy) of radiation from the previous 3.0 kGy.

You can view the two published rules here:
http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2012-11-30/pdf/2012-28967.pdf

...the FDA does not seem to care much about the facts as they concern the safety (or lack thereof) of irradiation, as the rogue agency has been on a crusade for the past several years to irradiate virtually everything that Americans eat. Meat, fruit, spices, breads, you name it -- if the grocery store sells it, then the FDA wants to nuke it for your "safety." (http://www.naturalnews.com/023945.html)

Balancing Hormones

Hormones are the chemical communicators between all cells. All hormones depend on each other to do their job. For the body to function in a balanced manner, we must strive to keep all hormones at a normal level. Our bodies are comprised of three hormonal systems that are all interconnected and influence one another in countless ways.

Blood Sugar Hormones: Insulin, Glucagon, Testosterone
Adrenal Hormones: Stress Hormones, Sex Hormones
Ovarian Hormones: Estrogen, Progesterone

The master gland or pituitary, secretes chemical messengers (hormones) that act on the adrenal glands, thyroid gland, ovaries and testes, which in turn produce other hormones. Through production of its hormones, the pituitary gland controls your metabolism, growth, sexual maturation, reproduction, blood pressure and many other vital physical functions and processes. Thus if the desire is to create homeostasis within our chemical messenger system, it makes sense to create the focal point within the blood sugar hormones: insulin and glucagon. Read more>>

The following tidbits of information are offered for relief of hormonal imbalance symptoms.

*High-Lignan Flaxseed Oil & Ground Flaxseeds ~ Known as the #1 all-around hormonal balancer – especially for skin conditions, depression and fatigue – nothing beats a daily tablespoonful of flaxseed oil that is high in lignans. Swallow as is or use as a salad dressing or topping once your recipe has been prepared.

*Black Currant Seed Oil ~ This is great for mood changes, anxiety, hair loss, irritability, headaches, water retention and particularly useful for female breast tenderness. Suggest two capsules (500 mg) of black currant seed oil twice daily after food.

*Multivitamins and Magnesium ~ the following combination of supplements offer relief for symptoms such as mood swings, insomnia, anxiety, tissue dryness and water retention. Magnesium in particular is great for ‘cravings’. When folks tell me they crave chocolate.. it is not really the chocolate they are craving but magnesium the body needs and wants:

-Vitamin B complex, including 50 – 100 mg of B6
-Vitamin C, 1000 mg three times a day
-Vitamin E, 400-1200 IU
-Magnesium, 500-1000 mg before sleeping

*Zinc ~ (15-50 mg a day) promotes immune function to fight illness, supports healthy cell growth and development, and ensures a proper sense of taste and smell. It is especially important for men in maintaining prostate health, testosterone levels and overall sexual health. For women, zinc helps to lower estrogen and increase progesterone levels, as well as to build strong bones. A must for vegetarians, whose diet is often lacking in this vital mineral.

Ladies: Natural Progesterone Cream ~ Progesterone cream balances estrogen dominance symptoms, such as decreased sex drive, depression, abnormal blood sugar levels, fatigue, fuzzy thinking, irritability, thyroid dysfunction, water retention, bone loss, fat gain, and low adrenal function. Massage a high-quality progesterone cream into the soft, capillary-rich skin of your face, neck, upper chest, breasts, inner arms, palms and backs of hands, and soles.

*Exercise ~ oh the things I can say about moving your body!!!! Be vigorously active for a minimum of a half hour five days a week. Do different things each day—and do what you ENJOY.

*Destress Your Stress ~ Remember that you perceive a stressor as such and that stress is a three-step process:
-Stressor
-Distress
-Consequence

The process can be interrupted at any time

*Adrenal Refresher ~ At times of a lot of stress, replacing lost minerals and vitamins can help the adrenal glands secrete stress hormones. The following are offered for your trial:

B Complex vitamins
Vitamin C, 500 mg every three hours
Adrenal gland extract
Schizandria root (suggest 2 caps three times a day)
StressCare
GABA
Green and Yellow-Orange vegetables
Sea Vegetables (nori, hishiki, arame, dulse, kelp etc)

*Saw Palmetto berries ~ boosts prostate health in men, and contributes to regulating sexual health/development and normalizing the reproductive health activity of the those glands and organs for both men and women. So yeah for the promotion of healthy libidos!! Saw Palmetto is great for hair growth, its effects on general health and disposition (tranquility), appetite stimulation as well as digestion and nutrient assimilation.

From a holistic approach I teach to take only the absolute minimum that you need to alleviate your symptoms. As a Nutrition Specialist, you know I will always start with: clean up your food! Focusing on protein plus healthy fats + veggies + a small portion of complex carbs (around 25-35g) per feeding. Eating 5-6 times a day.

Should you be up for further exploration, I highly recommend the following books loaded with key information regarding balancing your hormones.

Dr. Oz viciously attacks organic foods and farmers markets

Dr. Oz viciously attacks organic foods and farmers markets, pushes feedlot beef, urges clueless consumers to eat more pesticides and GMO (opinion)

Saturday, December 01, 2012
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Dr. Oz has finally done it: He has sold out to Big Ag by declaring organic foods to be "elitist," "snooty" and no better than conventional foods. The man who once urged Americans to eat organic has sold his soul to the criminally-run food giants in a mind-blowing editorial piece recently published in TIME Magazine.

Look for Dr. Oz to promote GMOs next, as cozying up to Monsanto probably won't be too far behind. The man is already on the record pushing vaccines, talking about how good they are for "public health" while failing to mention that
vaccines admittedly contain mercury, formaldehyde, aluminum and MSG.

He's also the same guy who was behind the "RealAge" internet scheme that recruited people into a promotional network where they were barraged by drug-pushing ads from Big Pharma. Dr. Oz also owned a huge number of option shares in a vaccine technology company.

In his TIME Magazine editorial piece, Dr. Oz declares organic foods to be "elitist" and appropriate only for "the 1%." This clever bit of propaganda is designed to try to align conventional foods (i.e. pesticide ridden GMO foods) with the "99%" by making them sound more populist. As if, the "People's food" is pesticides and GMOs, you see.

Does the man have no shame? Is there any corporate poison he won't promote to his viewers?

Oz declares organic food is "not democratic"

"Organic food is great, it's just not very democratic," Dr. Oz declares, as if choosing organic is somehow an affront to America. "You don't need to eat like the 1% to eat healthily," he says. In other words, keep sucking down more GMOs, pesticides, herbicides and chemicals, and you'll be a good little American food slave. Buying organic is anti-American, you're being told.

Dr. Oz's message, of course, has become indistinguishable from that of Monsanto. It's all the same deception: You don't need clean, non-GMO food to be healthy. Keep eating all the conventional crap that poisons you with synthetic chemicals, and you'll be just fine! How about some GMO Corn Flakes for breakfast, even!

Dr. Oz also attacks farmers markets, because he apparently thinks buying local food is a silly waste of time. "Nutritionally speaking, there is little difference between the farmer's-market bounty and the humble brick from the freezer case," he somehow says with a straight face. Oh really? There's no difference between fresh, locally-grown food versus frozen, corporate-produced food trucked in from a thousand miles away? The ignorance of this guy is just flat-out stunning. Does he know nothing about where food comes from and how it is produced? Read more>>
