Scientists discover virus that kills all grades of breast cancer ‘within seven days’

Researchers learned of its cancer-killing properties in 2005, after Penn State scientists observed it killing cervical cancer cells. They also found that women who carried the AAV2 virus and human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer, had a lower propensity to develop cervical cancer.

When combined in a lab recently, AAV2 eradicated all the breast cancer cells “within seven days,” according to researchers. Better still, it proved capable of wiping out cancer cells at multiple stages, negating the need for differing treatments used today.

“If we can determine which viral genes are being used, we may be able to introduce those genes into a [therapy],” explained Penn State research associate Samina Alam. “If we can determine which pathways the virus is triggering, we can then screen new drugs that target those pathways. Or we may simply be able to use the virus itself.”

The top 10 chemicals contributing to autism and learning disabilities

Epidemic proportions

To kick off the month, the Centers for Disease Control released the latest figures on children with autism in the U.S. They estimate that 1 in 88 children is now affected by "Autism Spectrum Disorder," also known as ASD. Boys are more likely to have the disorder, with 1 in 54 affected.

These numbers reflect a 78% increase in prevalence since 2002, with the largest rate of growth among Hispanic and black children. Public health experts now refer to this dramatic nationwide trend as an autism epidemic.

Sugar and kids: The toxic truth

This week on 60 Minutes, Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on new research coming out of some of America's most respected institutions, which find that sugar-- the way it's being consumed by Americans today-- is a toxin. And it could be the driving force behind some of this country's leading killers, including heart disease.

We at Overtime couldn't believe our ears when we heard this report. We knew sugar was bad, but a "toxin"? We give our kids that stuff!

We weren't quite sure how to apply the new science in the 60 Minutes report to the challenges of everyday family life, so we sat down with Dr. Sanjay Gupta for some practical advice. Both a doctor and a father of three, Dr. Gupta offers his take on how a typical American family should think about the sugar in their diet.

Fall Asleep Faster!

Grab a handful of honey-glazed almonds and a cup of chamomile tea. The nuts are high in tryptophan, which is sedating; the glucose in honey suppresses the electrical activity of neurons that signal alertness; and a flavonoid in chamomile reduces anxiety.

Non-Surgical Options to Back Surgery

Before making the decision to go under the knife, research your options, such as Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression, a revolutionary new technology used primarily to treat disc injuries in the neck and in the low back. This treatment option is very safe and utilizes FDA cleared equipment to apply distraction forces to spinal structures in a precise and graduated manner. Distraction is offset by cycles of partial relaxation. This technique of spinal decompression therapy, that is, unloading due to distraction and positioning, has shown the ability to gently separate the vertebrae from each other, creating a vacuum inside the discs that we are targeting. This "vacuum effect" is also known as negative intra-discal pressure.

Another option is MicroCurrent Therapy, commonly referred as MENS is an electrical treatment
modality providing current in millionths of an ampere that has the ability to relieve pain, increase
the rate of wound healing, stimulate the regeneration of injured tissue, change scar tissue and
relieve myofascial trigger points.

In addition, microcurrent therapy can be used at specific frequencies for a variety of tissues and
conditions. This can often soften tissue and decrease pain, which provides
long-lasting pain
relief that may even be permanent.
This has some promising benefits that may be applicable
to current chronic pain conditions as well.

Eating for Health

Raw foods hold more nutrients than cooked foods – the higher the heat and the longer foods are cooked, the more nutrients are lost.

Juicing is an excellent way to eat raw vegetables and fruits. I have a juicer and I love it! It’s a quick, easy and super-nutritious way to make breakfast or snacks. And you’ll stay fuller longer. Even the kids like it! (I just can't tell them they’re eating broccoli and celery or the gig is up.)

Can’t eat it raw? Try steaming your veggies instead of boiling them. They will hold more nutrients and taste better. Steaming only takes about 5 minutes - make sure the water is boiling
before adding veggies to the steamer, otherwise they may end up overcooked and limp.
The Healing Power of Jewelry

Many gemstones are thought to offer mystic healing to its wearer. During the holiday season, where family and financial stress, high expectations, and sleep deprivation flourish, every little bit helps. So whether shopping for a gift of fine jewelry, or considering a gift for yourself along the way, consider the properties of these fine gemstones.

Since When is Cancer "Free and Gentle"?

TAKE ACTION! Tell Procter & Gamble to strip 1,4-dioxane out of Tide Free & Gentle®!

Cleaning product companies aren’t required to disclose the ingredients they use in their products, and what they’re keeping secret from you could be hazardous to your health. Women’s Voices for the Earth (WVE) commissioned an independent laboratory to test twenty popular cleaning products for hidden toxic chemicals from five top companies: Clorox, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt Benckiser, SC Johnson and Son, and Sunshine Makers (Simple Green). We found reproductive toxins, carcinogens, hormone disruptors, and allergens, and none of these chemicals were listed on the product label.

Consumers deserve to know what chemicals they are being exposed to, so that they can easily avoid products that may cause allergic reactions or serious long-term health impacts like cancer, birth defects, or pregnancy complications. WVE is calling on Congress to pass new federal legislation that requires cleaning product manufacturers to disclose all the ingredients they use in their products directly on the product label.
